The Big Weekend is nearly here... We are now less than 7 hours away from the first game of a huge weekend for the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs. Tonight at 7.30 sees the puck drop at iceSheffield as Andre Payette leads the Dogs against Tony Hand and the Manchester Phoenix. This could well be Hand’s last appearance in Sheffield and as based on his previous visit, he’s prepared to fight to take the points back across the Pennines. Coach Payette is ready for whatever the title chasing Phoenix bring “we’ve been looking forward to this game since we came off the ice in Altrincham having beaten them for the second time in eight days. We showed what we can do then and I know my guys will be fired up and ready come 7.30”. “These are always good, hard fought games and want to beat them and win the series. This could be a playoff match up so we want to put down a marker and show how far we’ve come. I need my big players to turn up and I know Woody (Greg Wood) will lead from the front – he always scores against them and there’s no love lost between Woody and the Manchester fans so I expect that will carry on”. As if a Manchester game wasn’t enough excitement, on Saturday the Telford Tigers will skate on to the iceSheffield rink, looking to show that they are a genuine force in the EPL. The Dogs will be out to make this a real test and Andre has made it clear that the Tigers are in for an uncomfortable night.
