The Black Lab and the Actress In 1984 we moved into a new home in North Central San Antonio. We were adding things to the house like a red wood deck and a hot tub. Some of our new neighbors stopped by to introduce themselves and check out the new deck. They brought along their small 4 year old little blond daughter. She of course was precious. We are walking in the back yard looking at all the oaks and checking out the deck and explaining why we went with the redwood tub instead of the acrylic style. We were walking back into the home through the french doors off our bedroom giving the tour. Just showing them the house. Just as we paused my male lab went crazy. Pushed the little girl into the corner and had her entire face in his mouth. I walked up put my knee into his ribs as I grabbed his collar. I told the father, I will take him out right now and put him down. They begged me not to do that. They had a male Irish Setter and understood our dog was only acting on being invaded by another male threat. Their dog was the little girls best friend. She did not even have a red mark on her face. Labs have soft mouths and will only overpower the opposition and if they submit then they will not go any further. Turns out about 20 years later and we see her name on some TV show and found out it was our little neighbor girl, Abby Brammell.
