The Bride Wore Red Shoes The first time I was so affected by a wedding was at my oldest nieces wedding years ago. The sight of the two of them entering the reception and the new husband scooping up their toddler on the way in just was so loving and beautiful I still have it captured in my minds eye after all these years. So last night was another one. Beautiful, funny (yes, funny!) and revealing of the two very distinct persons. Let me say first I just met both of them this year. So really I dont know them well. And yet I feel privileged to attend, and I know some other guests made it a priority to travel and attend the wedding of these two. Pat LaMarche is a homeless advocate who travels around the country speaking out and for the unfortunate. She presently works in Carlisle and she will pop up on Facebook asking her many, many friends for help and donations or shoes or clothes in a particular size for the people in desperate need for these basic necessities Her friends always come through because they know and love her. Her grown childrens toasts to her revealed what a fun, attentive mom she is. They reminisced how she turned every moment into an even more fun moment with her quirky sense of humor--sort of like the wedding ceremony--the guests were waiting and waiting and watching the door. Out came a toddler being awkwardly walked down the aisle by a dressed up person in red (I think her daughter-in-law?), then her daughter in red walks slowly from the back to the front. So photos and video are being taken and we are waiting. And waiting. Bridegroom seems to be sweating. FINALLY--beautiful bride in white magically appears from the SIDE door and gives a twirl so we can all see her gorgeous dress and magical RED heels. Everybody laughs in relief because this is the magical Pat LaMarch and who knows what could happen. She ran for vice-president (yes, of the United States) not too long ago. Chad Bruce is a musician/singer/artist/heartthrob whose daughters wedding toast to him revealed an attentive and awesome dad. She said from the moment she held on to his finger in the hospital premature ward, he never let go--from playing ball to drawing pictures on everything to soothing her nightmares to building her a wrap-around treehouse that was the envy of everybody to catching her making out in said treehouse and later asking about the boy and then her coming out as gay with his positive acceptance. She modeled herself after him--artist, musician, whole person. So back to the guests waiting for the wedding to start. Hes all dressed up in a tuxedo and is sitting with the guests like he doesnt have a clue. Finally, one of the wedding party goes looking for him and spots him and reminds him to come to the front where the the mayor of Dillsburg is waiting patiently. Were all giggling. When the mayor starts to ask Pat something about her vows, Chat interrupts and starts to sing. Let It Be Me. Wish I had a recording--it was gorgeous.
