The Britain of King George V declared war on Germany ruled by Kaiser Wilhelm II on 4 August 1914. The declaration was in response to Germanys declaration of war and invasion of neutral Belgium, a ally of Britain. The two Monarchs were first cousins sharing Queen Victoria as a grandmother. The two had last met in Berlin for the wedding of the Kaisers only daughter Princess Victoria Louise to Prince Ernest Augustus of Hanover on 24 May 1913. As a result of the war, the two men were never to meet again. The photo is of the cousins riding in Potsdam, Berlin : May 1913.
