The CEO of a private waste management firm in Florida "invites the nation," as he puts it, to designate June 17 as "National Garbage Man Day." Nice idea -- except the label "garbage man" is archaic and offensive. So do we celebrate because the work is acknowledged, or do we sit this one out and hope the laudable sentiment will one day be matched by a similarly laudable, or at least not negative, title?
