The CHINAR International team in Kashmir is engaged in a serious disaster relief effort as we go into the 8th day of Kashmir Flood 2014 which has caused colossal damage across the valley. Like most others in Kashmir, our team was disconnected from the rest of the world since last Sunday and as a result we are behind in sharing our progress. However, we are back now ! Our main focus is to deliver clean water to people in need. Water borne disease is the greatest killer after natural disasters, but timely intervention can stem the spread of these diseases, and can save thousands of lives. This means we are providing people with the tools they need to purify their water at home, setting up and managing water purification units, and supporting others who are working to restore clean water supply. So far we have distributed supplies including bottle water, biscuits, cooked rice, blankets, essential medicines (chlorine , paracetmol, anti-allergic and anti-diarrheal ) to stranded people in Panthachowk, Lasgan, Tengpora and Batmaloo regions. Further our team also played a critical role in rescue and evacuation effort in RamBagh, Nati-Pora areas. CHINAR International also help setup a Flood Clinic 2014 (medial camp) in Sanatnagar area of Srinagar in collaboration with renewed and dedicated community doctors where we provided medicines and logistical support. We plan to enhance our Relief Strategy for next few weeks by using tippers, tractors and boats to help hard to reach stranded people in various regions of Srinagar district. We also plan to add supplies like candles, matches, thermals and hygiene kits.
