The Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (CBNERR) in Virginia is offering a 3-day workshop on the new “Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain Region” (Version 2.0). Course Description: Wetland Delineation, March 3, 4, and 5, 2014. CBNERR is offering a 3-day workshop on the new “Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain Region” (Version 2.0). This short course is intended for professional wetland delineators, federal, state, and local agency personnel, college and university students and research staff, wetland managers, and any others with an interest or professional investment in wetland boundary identification. The course will provide an in-depth review of this currently accepted wetland delineation protocol for the Coastal Plain region. The 3-day curriculum covers all aspects of wetland delineation in the Coastal Plain region, and will include classroom and field activities. The instructor is Dr. Douglas A. DeBerry, who is a Research Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Policy at the College of William and Mary. Dr. DeBerry is a certified Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) and Professional Wetland Delineator (PWD), has been a private sector wetland delineator for over 18 years, and has worked extensively in the Coastal Plain of the Mid-Atlantic and South-Atlantic Regions. He was on the test-development panel for the wetland delineator certification program in Virginia, and has also worked as a technical advisor for such organizations as the Mid-Atlantic Wetland Workgroup and the National Wetland Condition Assessment program. Workshop participants will learn: § Wetland delineation protocols based on the Regional Supplement methodology. § Wetland indicators based on the three diagnostic criteria used to delineate wetlands: vegetation, soils, and hydrology. § The current scientific understanding for physical, chemical, and biological phenomena that characterize wetlands in the Coastal Plain. § Proper sampling techniques for wetland delineations. § Introduction to the National Technical Committee for Hydric Soils (NTCHS) indicators for wetland soil conditions. § Introduction to “Difficult Wetland Situations”, and how to conduct a wetland delineation when “normal circumstances” are not present. § Tips on preparing a submittal package to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a Jurisdictional Determination. § How the Regional Supplement differs from the 1987 Manual, and what the implications are for wetland delineations in the Coastal Plain. § Certificates of Completion will be awarded on the final day. *Important information: § The cost of this 3-day course is $250.00 § You must pre-register, and we must receive your payment no later than 5 pm on February 26, 2014 to reserve a spot for you at the workshop. *Your registration will not be completed without payment received by this date. *Please include the following information with your check: name, email address, affiliation, telephone number, mailing address.
