The Christmas season is always a good time to remind people of the privileges that Christians have in this country. This list is good for those moments when people claim theres some sort of War on Christmas or War on Christianity and youre like uh, having a minor reduction of special treatment as things diversify does not equal oppression. Again, this isnt about attacking Christianity, its about helping people recognize how prevalent the faith is and how alarmist and unnecessary media hype about Wars on Christmas and stuff are. If you want call it Count Your Blessings and realize its the only faith for which all of the below are true. Heres your list: Christians can expect to have time off work to celebrate religious holidays. Often these will be federally recognized and not require additional vacation hours be used. Symbols of Christianity and Christian worship/holidays can be found readily throughout the US in stores and elsewhere, easily accessible and available and constantly on display. Non-Christians, when saying Glad Yule or Happy Chanukah or whatever their own faiths greeting is, are often reminded that Jesus is the Reason for the Season (hes not the only one, thanks) and told theres a War on Christmas if we try a more inclusive and comfortable Happy Holidays. Christianity is pretty much the only faith that claims that if you dont use their traditional holiday greeting in mixed company, youre somehow being rude or attacking their faith. Jews dont expect people to say Happy Chanukah to them if the person isnt Jewish. Some find it very nice especially during the 8 Days - but nobody would expect it. Christians in the US can worship freely, without fear of violence or threats. If a Christian is being tried in court, they can assume that the jury of “their peers” will share their faith and not hold that against them in weighing decisions. When swearing an oath, Christians will place their hand on a religious scripture pertaining to their faith. Politicians who are Christian can make statements and/or often make decisions citing their faith without being labeled heretics or extremists. Christians can travel to any part of the country and know their religion will be accepted, safe, and they will have access to religious spaces to practice their faith. Christians faith can be an aspect of their identity without being a defining aspect, and is unlikely to be used in descriptions of criminals or in news stories to create sensationalism. Fundraising to support congregations of Christian faith will not be investigated as potentially threatening or terrorist behavior. Construction of spaces of worship will not likely be halted due to ones Christian faith. There is also unlikely to be protests regarding the construction of a Christian church whereas there are often protests of mosques or pagan temples - as well as protests of displays of either Muslim or Pagan things in public spaces. The majority of people within the culture, country, establishment and more are all Christian. Disclosing Christian faith to an adoption agency will not likely prevent someone from being able to adopt children. In the event of a divorce, the judge is not going to count Christian as a reason *not* to give custody to a parent (whereas judges have decided against custodial arrangements where one parent has a weird religion). ...just a few for example.
