The City Traffic Police Tuesday advised the motorists to use alternative roads for commuting between Rawalpindi and Islamabad, during construction of Metro Bus Project on Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road). Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Shoaib Khurram in a statement said the commuters should use Airport Road through Karal Chowk, Peshawar Road through IJP Road and Golra Road to reach Islamabad for their own convenience. Similarly they can come to Rawalpindi city area through Rawal Road, Saidpur Road and IJP Road. Shoaib said a comprehensive traffic plan had been made to check traffic congestion on Murree Road. Section 144 has been imposed, under which nobody would be allowed to encroach Murree Road by unauthorised parking and on the alternative routes. The police in coordination with departments concerned would conduct operations against encroachers to ensure smooth flow of traffic, he added. Besides enhancing the number of traffic wardens, he added, the officials who were performing duties at traffic headquarters had also been deployed on Murree Road and alternative routes. The traffic police chief has urged the citizens to cooperate with the police in their effort to streamline the traffic.
