The Community Project in Bario : Solar Power Date: 30 August 2013 Date: 6th of September, 2013 (Friday) Time: 2:30 – 3:30pm Venue: Prinia 3 (GP3) Room 203 Speaker: Ms. Chong Sheau Ching, eHomemakers founder and Executive Director Speaker’s profile Sheau Ching has been advocating work life balance issues and is the founder of the teleworking movement in Malaysia. She has two Bachelors’ degrees from Canada, and a Master’s in International Administration from the US, majoring in Training of Trainers and Development Administration. Her fourteen years’ experience with international organizations in policy planning, program¬ming, management and training has given her extensive knowledge on grassroot empowerment and innovative solutions. She was a gender/poverty alleviation consultant for some UN country programs in the Asia Pacific. As a speaker, former columnist for 13 years, author and trainer, she has actively advocated for poverty alleviation through community empowerment especially for disadvantaged women. She is the founder and Executive Director of the 16-year old social enterprise, eHomemakers ( an e-community of women and men who work @ home, near the home or participate in innovate flexi-work.) She was the sole recipient of the 2003 Women in Electronic Network Training Award at WSIS I (World Summit of Information Societies I) by international organization, APC ( Association of Progressive Communication) and Sookmyung Women’s University of South Korea. She is also an active contributing member of several international ICT4D networks. Under her stewardship, eHomemakers won the Pan Asia Award Grant for ICT/gender research in 2002 and 2003, and was the runner-up for the Gender and ICT Award (2005) presented by Global Knowledge Partner (GKP) at the World Information Society Summit II (WSIS II). The cloud-based integrated management platform for non-profits, ECHO, won the MSC Malaysia Ericsson CR Award 2009. It was a finalist for APICTA Malaysia 09 and the winner of the MIRC e-Social Enterprise Award 2009. ECHO was the sole winner of the Innovation Society Fund (ISIF) 2012 Asia Award under the category, ‘Common Good’.
