The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man shot himself late this afternoon in the parking lot of the Hall of Justice, and that he may survive his wound. Chief Criminal Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig says that the incident took place right around 5 pm, shortly after a domestic violence trial had ended inside the Hall. He says that the victim was the defendant in the trial, which ended with a hung jury. The man went out to his vehicle, got out a shotgun, and then shot himself. Several Deputies and other personnel from the Hall of Justice were on the scene within seconds, and provided first aid. Rosenzweig says that the man was alive when he was taken to St. John Medical Center. Rosenzweig also says that the shooting was witnessed by several people, and those people are being interviewed. The man’s name hasn’t yet been released, pending full notification of next of kin.
