The DMI website has a very extensive collection of satellite images from all around the coast of Greenland, updated daily (dmi.dk/groenland/maalinger/satellit/). This beauty caught our eye today. It shows Disko bay and the contrast between ocean, land and ice sheet is really clear. Notice how dark the ice is higher up, from all the accumulated dust melting out of the ice layers. You can also see very clearly see melt water ponds on the ice sheet. The big white arm sticking out is the Ilulissat ice fjord, often referred to as Jakobshavn Isbrae in the scientific literature. Its the fastest moving glacier in the world, calves regularly and the fjord in front is full of icebergs.
