The Department of Library and Information Studies welcomes Ms. Jessica Purvis to the role of School Library Media Assistant in the Department effective April 21, 2014. Ms. Purvis is a graduate of our School Library Media program and has been an adjunct professor for us since 2008. She also has experience as a Media Librarian, Library Media Specialist, and Classroom Teacher. In her new role for the Department, Ms. Purvis will be assuming a number of responsibilities for coordinating the School Library Media program, including making sure that the program is administered in accordance with all relevant external standards and policies, recruiting students, doing data collection and analysis, maintaining departmental web pages relating to the SLM program, advising SLM students, liaising with GSE and UB partners, and handling student issues. She will assume responsibility for advising SLM students starting on April 28, 2014. We also congratulate Ms. Purvis for being a first place winner of a 2013-14 Tools of Engagement Project (TOEP) Phase 2 Incentive Award! These awards, to be used toward the cost of continued professional development, were made for most pedagogically intriguing use of a TOEP tool as evidenced through postings to the TOEP Community.
