“The Diary of Zartoon” The hero of Zartoon suddenly finds he has lost his memory, and recalls nothing of his life except that he was living in Elkston, Maine and that he is Williams from Phoenix. Unfortunately, that is all he remembers, as he finds himself on a strange planet which he describes as “some God forsaken desert!”. Surviving on rodents and strange plants, he eventually… after several misadventures… finds himself being attacked from behind and with the force of the blow, immediately passes out. Williams opens his eyes to find himself surrounded by the reptilian inhabitants of this strange land. As he describes “ They were green and about seven feet tall. Their skin was reptilian, their faces were humanoid, and their eyes were a large soft blue with sparkling white pupils. “Tih gerk sli sitew petoq,” one of them said as he knelt down to me. He was holding a cup of liquid and he seemed friendly ..” Curious about the strange clothes our hero is wearing, one of the female creatures gives Williams a pill to take, and instantly he can understand every word they are saying, and they also understand him. The reptilian creatures ask his name and our hero tells them he is Williams from Phoenix. They immediately give him the name “Fa Nex”. Soon, Fa Nex is taken care of by a beautiful young female creature named Pandorica. They chat and he learns that the creatures he has met are Zartoon. This is their planet and they have lived here since time began. Fa Nex immediately assumes Zartoon is another name for Mars, but Pandorica smiles and assures him. “No this is Zartoon”. He is very relieved, but surprised to learn there are also humans who live on Zartoon. Another part of the population are the hybrids, who are the offspring of the relationships between the Zartoon and humans. Our hero is even more delighted when he discovers that in Zartoon, it is customary for many of the beautiful humans living in the Zartoon city (with as Fa Nex states. “Bodies that are far beyond belief.” ) to mate with him. Fa Nex learns much about Zartoon from the beautiful Pandorica. She explains that the blue star he has been admiring is actually Earth, which the Zartoon call ‘Yartook’. Pandorica explains that the humans who live in the Zartoon cities are happy and kind, and often fall in love and sometimes even marry with the Zartoon. But with sadness in her eyes, she describes the humans who live in ‘Human City’. She says they are monsters who treat the Zartoon who live there like slave animals. They are forced to breed so that the humans have even more slaves to command. Their hate of the entire Zartoon population is so strong, that they will stop at nothing to destroy the Zartoon and the rebellious humans who dare to live with the Zartoon in harmony. So begins Zartoon; 83 Diary entries, which record how Fa Nex becomes the Saviour of the Zartoon people. Follow his mission and ongoing challenge to find the white sword. Be enthralled by a magical love affair that breaks all human rules. His eventual marriage to a Zartoon Princess, the murder of their child, and a truth discovered deep in a Zartoon cave. A truth that will question all that people of different races and religion have come to believe. This is an incredibly imaginative fantasy tale with a strong message from Zartoon’s ingenious author R.e.Taylor. A message he hopes will reach out to all humanity to set about changing all that continually harms our Universe. A message which, if not heeded, will no doubt eventually annihilate us all.
