The European pet passport requires dogs travelling between Ireland - TopicsExpress

The European pet passport requires dogs travelling between Ireland and the UK to now have a passport, microchip and a rabies vaccination. Both are islands of the coast of western Europe - neither has had rabies for almost 100 years. There is no clinical reason to vaccinate a dog for a disease that is not present in either country. The passport and microchip are great idea - but the rabies vaccine??? This stipulation has cost and time implications for Irish rescue dogs being rehomed to the UK which is resulting in the death of dogs in pounds. The rescues are full with healthy dogs who are unable to travel and the pounds are full of dogs who cannot be taken out because the rescues are all full. This is EU legislation gone mad, its a shame that an initiative that was passed for the best of reasons has had this unintended consequence which is actually killing pound dogs
