The Freeland Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes Ken Horn as a new member ************************************************************** The American Dream of freedom and the entrepreneurial spirit have a special meaning for Ken Horn’s family. Ken’s father, who was tortured for his resistance to Communism, escaped with his wife from East Germany into the open arms of American soldiers in West Germany as the Berlin Wall was going up. Ken’s father taught him to love freedom, work hard, and give back to his community. Ken and his wife Veronica have 2 children and have lived in Frankenmuth for over 30 years where he owned and operated his popular small business, Horn’s Restaurant for 15 years. Ken has also served as a substitute teacher in Frankenmuth and Bridgeport/Spaulding schools. He is a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Ken manages Horn Consulting LLC, recently contracted as Director of Community Development of MITECH+ a non-profit agency developing STEM talent. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) seeks to connect area schools and businesses to each other with education and business partnerships in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Horn also consults for Energy Systems Groups, helping large communities reduce extraordinary energy costs. Ken also currently serves as Boy Scouts of America- Saginaw County Finance Chairman. In 2006, Ken was elected 94th District State Representative. Ken served in Majority leadership as Chairman of the House Energy & Technology Committee, Tax Policy Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. Ken was re-elected 3 times through 2012 and was term-limited from running again. He is running to become the Senator from Michigan’s 32nd District, a position currently held by Roger Kahn MD, who is term limited. Ken served as Saginaw County Commissioner for 14 years as: Chairman of the Legislative Sub-Committee and also served on Courts & Public Safety, Community Corrections Advisory Board, County Services, Budget/Audit Appropriations, Saginaw County Airport Commission and the Saginaw County Event Center Board. Ken Horn has a long history of community involvement including: Saginaw Transportation Authority Regional Services (STARS) Salvation Army Board of Directors – 1994-1996. Frankenmuth Jaycees – member from 1982 – 1996 Frankenmuth Rotary Club – Member starting 1996-current Ken has served as Junior Achievement instructor for five years. Presented basic economics and resources to fourth graders at List Elementary School in Frankenmuth Ken graduated Magna Cum Laud from Concordia University, Ann Arbor with a B.A. in Criminal Justice Administration Ken graduated with honors from Milford High School, Milford, MI .
