The Friends of HAS executive director, Lucy Rawson, returned from Haiti this past Monday. The trip was to celebrate the Haiti Timber Reintroduction Program graduates at their graduation ceremony held on May 1st and May 4th. There were 1,400 HTRIP graduates. Lucy wrote briefly to a friend of her trip and we asked if we could share it: There was an energetic parade to the tune of, the caissons go rolling along, and a thousand people shouting, Hurray for HAS! and, HTRIP, HTRIP. We took other trips to the Godin area, and the LaRoque area, where the landscape has totally been transformed since my first visits there to barren mountainsides. Trees are everywhere, and farmers proud to show them. Congratulations to the graduates and to their work in changing the landscape of Haiti.
