The Fryatt Valley gets a bad rap because it is billed as a long trail that ends in a headwall that you wont soon forget. But in reality it is a Jasper classic: start with a leisurely 11km bike ride along the Athabasca River, past a stunning overlook. After some classic single track (even better on the way back!) drop your bike at Lower Fryatt campground and head up the valley. Youll pass below the tower of Brussels Peak, along one of the prettiest lakes in the park, and then yes, a headwall that is in a couple places more of a scramble than a hike. But atop awaits a cozy little Alpine Club Hut with room for 12. The valley above the hut begs exploration. A gorgeous lake, a river that disappears into a cave, and rugged mountains all around. If you dont want to head all the way to the hut, stop at Brussels campground, in one of the best settings in the park. Options, options! What more could one ask for in a Jasper trail? Theres still time to explore! Rogier
