The GOP led U.S. House is scheduling a Thursday vote (theyre last scheduled day of work until the middle of September) on the Republican Border funding package. If it passes, they would be required to vote on legislation that would prevent the expansion of deferred deportations. The current package is only $659 million of which 2/3 is to fund more border security. Included in the package is also a repeal of the 2008 anti-trafficking law. The current border situation is a humanitarian issue dealing with refugee children. The U.S. House is treating it as an immigration issue and feel the President is breaking the law with his immigration policies. As a point of reference, the Obama Administration is the first in more than fifty years to have reduced the population of illegal immigrants from 11.7 million in 2008, to about 11.3 million today. Of those 11.3 million, almost all crossed the border more than seven years ago. It is unclear if the bill will pass the House and will most certainly not be taken up in the Senate. So once again, our more critical issues are not being solved with this Congress.
