The Gary Player Classic was held last week over 4 days at the Pacific Golf Club. Redcliffe were well represented with Doug Klein, Jarrod Stirling, Chase Duffy, Ronan Davies, Mitchell Smith and Tyler Duncan competing in the event. 196 players contested the event, a record number with 20 reserves. Throughout the competition only 3 sub-par rounds were recorded giving testament to the difficulty of the course set up. On day 3, play was interrupted late in the afternoon by a severe thunderstorm forcing an extra early start on day 4 for all players that made the cut. At the start of round 4, 6 players were within 4 shots of the lead, with Doug Klein moving into second position 1 shot off the lead, and after 9 holes he was tied with the overnight leader Josh Taylor while also fending off all the other challengers. The lead changed 3 times on the back 9 between Josh and Doug but at the completion of play Josh had regained the lead to win by 1 shot. Doug in the end finished second in the 17 years and under and 4th overall (including 18-21) with the scores 76,75,73,74 total 298 1 shot behind the overnight leader Josh Taylor. Congratulations Doug fantastic effort on such a challenging course.
