The Giant Flag project in South Africa could revolutionize its environment and the people who live near it. An excerpt: Some 2.5 million red, yellow, blue, and green desert plants, including cacti and peekaboo, will be arranged in a pattern like that of South Africas flag. The flags black triangular area will contain a 4-megawatt solar-panel field, generating much-needed electricity for the region. The Giant Flag program aims to revitalize a dry region in the country and provide socioeconomic benefits for generations to come. If it is successful, it will power 4,000 homes with solar energy, re-enrich the soil, and stimulate the economy with thousands of jobs. And because the Giant Flag is slated to take up the size of 66 football fields, it will even be seen from space (pictured)! What a concept!
