The Gospel Truth, September 26th, 2014 – Several years ago it was common for young people to say they were dropping out of society to “find who they are”. Another common term was “finding myself”. In reality, most of these kids were more interested in avoiding growing up than “finding” who they are. As a Christian today we are charged with both growing up and finding who we are. Colossians 2:6 and 7 says “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.” We must begin a journey to get beyond spiritual milk and recognize that we need the meat of living a holy life through the power of the Holy Spirit. We must strive to let the Lord change us to become who He wants us to be. Romans 12:2 instructs us not to be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. So if that’s growing up, how to tell who we are in Jesus Christ? 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” That sounds an awfully lot like what growing up points to! But 1 Corinthians 6:19 takes it yet another step. It says “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own”. So if we’re growing up spiritually and we’re to be that new creation in Jesus, how could we possibly not be our own?! That, my friends, is simple. 1 Corinthians 6:20 lays it out when it reminds us we were BOUGHT with a price! Do we need to mature in the spirit? ABSOLUTELY! Do we need to find ourselves a new creation? WITH OUT A DOUBT! But the more you let the Holy Spirit lead you into these things the more you find out who you are. You’re His! Today stop trying to find your place in the world by pursuing worldly pleasures and press in begging God to let His presence move you from a spiritual baby to a mighty disciple of Jesus Christ.
