The Hangover Workout! Fact: When youre hungover, working out is hard. But seriously now, what should you be able to do at the gym when you partied hard the night before? In truth, a less intense workout is the best bet to revive your body systems that are responsible for detoxification and energy production. Even a gentle workout will bring you back to life and help your body restore its pre-bash balance. In simple terms, the workout below helps by increasing your heart rate and circulation. This causes your metabolism (and body processes) to fire up and foster detoxification and restoration. Part of a hangover is brought on by the massive influx of carbs—some of which are still lingering the next day. The cardio in this routine burns off those excess carbs that might be floating in your bloodstream. The yoga-like moves in the mat section incorporate all of the major movement patterns that your body regularly makes; these help to open, stimulate, and release energy in your pushing, pulling, and twisting muscles. The Workout: Begin with 12 minutes of cardio. Choose your favorite, go-to machine, such as the STOTT equipment (reformers), elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike. (The machine that you default to is often the one thats easiest and most pleasurable for your body—the perfect prescription for a post-holiday bash hangover.) Work out at a steady state that feels like a five on a scale of one to 10, where one reflects lying in bed moaning about your hangover and 10 feels like youre running an Ironman. After cardio, come join our Sunday yoga class ☺. And be sure to hydrate! One reason for the symptoms of a hangover is dehydration.
