The Hindu concept of Karma is the only religious concept that makes some sense. The notions of heaven and hell are fundamentally flawed... however, if such places did exist (for the purpose of rewarding and punishing), then determinations based on karma (deeds) is the only one that would make sense. A rewards/punishments system based merely on praising a deity (by going to a place of worship, praying or converting to a particular religion) is indeed a very shallow one.
