The Human Need To Belong: I’ve been Sitting Here today and Thinking “What is One Of the Greatest Needs of Any Human Being besides Having a Personal Relationship With God?” Personally I Feel It is The Need to Know That You Belong. Let Me Explain!!! All of us are Born Into a Family But as Time goes On Some Feel Like They Are Outcasts. Nobody wants To Spend Time with them. They are Only Recognized if Something Needs to be Done But when THEY Reach Out to other Family Members they are Given The Cold Shoulder. I attended a Function not too long ago where this Person wanted to Celebrate His Birthday With Cousins and Only ONE Cousin together with His Wife and Child Was There. I Could See The Disappointment in His Body Language and No Matter How Someone Tried to Console or Cheer Him Up, The People that He Really Wanted There, wasn’t there. That is Just One Incident but If we sit and Think about it, Do We do The Same To Members of Our Own Families? Do We Contribute to Them Turning To Others for a sense Of Belonging, ( a Gang, a Click or Organization of Some Kind )? Do We Only associate with those that ‘Benefit’ Us? I know this will sound Harsh But then we Speak Bad About Them Like ‘Did You See what So and so Did again?’ You Tell Everyone “Keep away from them” They are a bad Influence. In Many cases WE are the Cause that Family Members of Ours Go Astray. Firstly by Just Ignoring them Hurts like Crazy. All That Person Wants and Needs is To Know Is That They Belong and their Family Cares and Loves Them and Include them in Our Daily Lives. My Challenge to Us is Make time to Spend With Family Members That we very Rarely Do. The Only Time that we Do Spend with them is when We Are Admonishing Them For Things they Have Done. Spend an Afternoon With them talking and Having a Good Time. I believe that THOSE Days Spending Quality Time Together will Be Red Letter Days In Their Lives. With All Of the Above Said I Hope That you can See That in Order For Us To Accomplish This, Change Starts With ‘ME’. I’ve got to Look at The Person From another Perspective ‘She/he is My Brother/Sister. Never Speak DOWN To The Person. She/he is My Equal And Need To Be Treated With Respect. And Finally Instill in Them The Sense Of Belonging.
