The Humane Society of Marion County is excited to announce more information on its upcoming P.A.W.S. Week! P.A.W.S. is a common phrase used in the rescue community that stands for Pitbulls Are Worth Saving. Pitbulls are, by far, the most surrendered and most euthanized dogs in American shelters. At the Humane Society of Marion County, we are making it a mission to show local residents that these dogs DO make good family pets, and that they deserve a chance to be adopted. P.A.W.S. Week at the shelter will be October 6-12. We will have a pit bull or pit bull mix featured every day on Facebook, as well as reduced adoption fees on our pit bull and pit bull mixes. Each day we will be doing a trivia question on Facebook as well (please let us know if your company or restaurant would be interested in providing gift cards to our winners!) At the end of the week on October 11, we will be doing a Pity Parade in Tuscawilla park in honor of this wonderful breed. Admission will be free, but we will be offering t-shirts for $10-15 (we are currently finalizing pricing) throughout the week that we encourage you to wear to the Pity Parade. We will have more details to follow, but we are inviting all of the HSMC friends to walk and bring their dogs, even if they are not pit bulls, as long as they are well behaved and socialized! Pictured is Spot, a rescued pit mix puppy thanking Cameron, our new intake manager. We encourage you to send in your pictures of your own pit bulls that we can feature during the week as well! If you have any questions or are interested in making a donation, please contact Kate Rengel, our Outreach Coordinator, at 873-7387 x. 15 or krengel@humanesocietyofmarioncounty.
