The Ideas Network – “Open Line” The main purpose of my open topic comment is to provide a core purpose for producing programming content that has applicable economic value to the audience recipients. Years ago in Oklahoma Contemporary Media and Information Services put me in charge of marketing and production for their “Minority Broadcasting Systems.” The vast majority of broadcasting content does not empower the recipient in their economic and personal life endeavors. The content that broadcast viewers and listeners need is content that they can effectively put to use in their lives to improve every dimension other personal lives. An example, is explaining to air-conditioning consumers the reality that though they are presented with the view that they will get a specific SEER level of performance that the manufacturer got in the laboratory conditions, they will seldom get anywhere near that SEER level after the installation of the new equipment in their homes environment. Public radio and public television have perfect opportunity to inform and educate HVAC consumers across America so that they can get a better deal when buying new equipment or when having their existing equipment service. We have an extremely low level of good practices involved in HVAC equipment installations and service work that must be rectified. Ken Burns produced a number of high cost episodes for PBS; when you evaluate those episodes there was virtually no content that the viewer recipient could put to beneficial use in their economic lives. When you look at the programming on public television and even on public radio there is very little broadcast content that the audience recipients can put to use in their lives; my constructive criticism is to help them see the potential that resides within the production purposes that I support. If public radio on public television once a lot of sustaining monthly supporters they need to broadcast valuable content to their audience, which the audience can put to effective use in their lives. Radio for example could use a lot more links to videos on the Internet that show the audience what the contractor ought to be doing for them to get what they are paying for as a consumer. There is a link to a video showing how modern digital manifold gauges can be used to show the BTU output of the air-conditioning system; this does not show the BTU per hour delivered to the rooms which is another added process. bit.ly/1dlsCZ9 Click on full screen & also download the video. Both Radio and Television can effectively use linked illustrative videos to inform consumers, including HVAC consumers on how in HVAC system can be checked concerning its installed performance. All I am asking for is broadcast content that would help the audience do what they could not do without receiving this educational content. That is what I call “People Empowerment Broadcasting.” This video simply illustrates the modern digital manifold gauges that should be used...leaving a permanent printed record of all important data, including the Btu per hour output of the system, with customers so they know what they bought & got after the install. This was a PRO Expert adjusting the system, most do not get near the Rating of the high SEER equipment. bit.ly/1dlsCZ9
