>>>>The Jerk The jerk is a real art form and requires a heap of work to perfect (not like the other lifts right??!!). Having said that, when done correctly, it shouldnt feel like a greek drama (long winded with many casualties) and should be relatively easy compared to the other lifts. The accompanying video is a great example of The Jerk. Its a video of who I believe to be one of the best jerkers of all time, Marc Huster from Germany. Note the following: 1) The tight (fighting the bar down as Klokov would say) dip 2) A relatively SHALLOW dip - not too deep. Shorter dips allow access to the greater force production. Dipping is not squatting 3) the HARMONIC timing of the dip and drive, much like the motion of an olympic diver pushing off a springboard 4) Speed and timing of the feet and slamming the front foot OUT 5) the weight sitting BEHIND the head. All great jerkers sit the weight slightly behind the head - look to the Chinese Team for this as they are great jerkers 6) A BENT back knee. If the back knee is straight, it normally means the back foot has shot out too far and the hips will then be behind the weight with the result being chasing the weight forward. Enjoy Terry
