The Judgment Bone is Connected to the Hypocrite Bone Jun 04, 2013 05:01 pm, by Chris Greer Read Romans 2:1-3, 8 “Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.”- Romans 2:1 ESV What does Paul mean when he writes, “…in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself?” There is good reason why non-Christians consistently describe Christians with the words “judgmental” and “hypocrite.” It’s sad but they are often right. The interesting thing is that if we weren’t judgmental, we wouldn’t be hypocrites. What Paul means when he writes “in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself”, is that when we judge others, we convict and condemn ourselves as hypocrites. You see, we are not hypocrites because we sin. We’re hypocrites, as Jesus says in Matthew 7:1-5, because in the middle of our sinfulness we judge others for being sinful! You know what this is like? It’s like a police officer who impatiently runs a stop sign in the morning then in the afternoon pulls you over for doing the same thing. The moment that officer pronounces judgment on your behavior (even though he’s right), he becomes a hypocrite. In this verse God is not telling you to be perfect. He’s simply telling you to stop acting like you are. It’s only when we have a right view of ourselves that we can have a right and loving view of others, and it’s only when the Church (you and me!) recognize that we are a hospital for sinners (Mark 2:17) that we will ever be a place that other sinners want to come to. Prayer: Merciful God in heaven, thank you for kind patience with me. I repent of the times when I consider myself to be better than others. Open my eyes to see others as you see them, and help me to see myself as you see me. Grow my desire to help others know you until it is much greater than my desire to point out their sin. By your grace and the power of your son Jesus, Amen. By Chris Greer The post The Judgment Bone is Connected to the Hypocrite Bone appeared first on Trochia.
