The Kings Book of Kings The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, has just published a new edition of its epic Shahnama -- the full color collection of all the illustrations in the famous Shahnama Shah Tahmasp, the pages of which are scattered in public and private collections around the world. The new edition, a little smaller and less expensive than the 2011 volume, incorporates a new research by the author Sheila Canby, who has compared the actual objects of the Safavid era with their representations in the Shahnama miniatures. Created over several generations at the court of the second Safavid king, the Shahnama features works by eleven artists, under three masters, Sultan Muhammad, a teacher of the young king, Mir Mussavar and Aga Mirak, who was a contemporary of the king himself. In this report by VOA Persian TVs Behnam Nateghi, the Head of the Mets Islamic Department, Sheila Canby, introduces the new edition and talks about her original research. vimeo/94692555
