The LORD He is God! For the LORD is great, and greatly to be - TopicsExpress

The LORD He is God! For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Psalm 96:4-5 Every person has something inside which tells them that there is a higher being which should be worshipped. As we look at the beauty of nature all around us it causes us to stand in awe because we realize there is something higher then us. We who have the Word of God worship the God of creation. Many peoples of the world have never heard of who this God is and so worship things that their imagination thinks represents the object they see, “Ye are our gods” (Isaiah 42:17b). Without the Bible (God’s Word) the true God can never be known. This is the reason God’s people must go about bringing this knowledge to all people. Psalm 96:2-3, “Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; show forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.” This makes the unknown God known, but more then that would show the people what this great God, who is our benefactor requires of each of us! What does He require? Psalm 96:7-8, “Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.” This requirement brings rebellion because men love themselves. God has no place in their hearts, nor do they see a need for Him. Psalm 14:3, “They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” If there are none, which seek after God how will any one ever, learn to love and fear God? God, who adds to His church daily such as should be saved (Acts 2:47), sends out His ambassadors to bring His word, the Spirit opens the heart of the hearer implanting faith which brings him to see his need of a Savior because he is undone becoming a lost sinner before a Holy God. Thomas Boston many years ago said, “Faith is a flower that grows not in the field of nature. As a tree cannot grow without a root, neither can a man believe without the new nature.” Leviticus 11:44a, “For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy.” Has sin against a Holy God become the largest burden in your life? This burden becomes even greater when the command to sanctify yourselves and be ye holy leaves us in an impossible situation, which leaves us powerless. The Holy Spirit shows glimpses of a Mediator by His word, giving us a longing to find such a One, but where to find Him we cannot understand! God’s word says believe in Jesus, how can I believe in someone I do not know? But I need to know Him! He is my only hope! Others tell of His wondrous works making our hearts yearn to know Him personally. By the Holy Spirit’s discovering word my cry becomes, “Give me Jesus else I die.” He then opens the Word showing the remedy available, which is none other, the Jesus Christ, the God-Man as our only hope. “It is the Spirit that quickeneth” (John 6:63a). This makes Jesus Christ precious to the sinner any other way only ends in self. We need a Triune God to work salvation showing our need but also to bring us to an end of self and flee to Jesus for deliverance, then we will bring our thanksgiving to Him for the righteousness we need to stand before Him as the Psalm ends. Psalm 96:13, “Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.” Do you need Him?
