The LOVE That LUSTS The Word of God says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” For everything in the world-the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-comes not from the Father but from the world.” One of the hallmarks of Christian religion is LOVE among others. The God whom the Christians worship and serve is a God of love. Followers of Christ are mandated to love God with all their heart, their mind, their soul, their strength and their neighbors as themselves. It is love that validates all the grace of gifts in the church. Without love, those exercises of gifts mean nothing. That is how important love is in the Christian faith. Not all love however is acceptable to God. There is a “wrong kind of love” that Christians are precluded from involving. This is the “love of the world.” The word “world” in these passages does not refer to the physical world that God created, neither to the world of mankind because God loves both of those. For example, the Bible says, “We are in the world (The physical world and mankind) but we are NOT of this world (The worldly system). This has reference to the system like “the world of entertainment”, the “world of sports”, the “world of business”, etc., the trend and the culture of the people of this world who are opposed to God but are influenced and inspired by the devil who is the god of this world. Such system or lifestyle is contrary to God and His order. These are characterized by LUST! And wickedness! The recent case of the murder of a race car driver Enzo Pastor is a relevant case to the aforementioned Divine injunction. The love of the alleged lover of the wife of the victim is a “wrong kind of love” to a woman because she is married. When a man loves a woman who is married, that love is driven by “lust”, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes. It is immoral, illicit and illegal. It was also deadly because the husband was murdered. This is a situation when “DIVORCE” although I personally don’t like it, is an acceptable option. It is a “lesser evil” and some said that it is a “necessary evil.” Instead of killing, live and let live! Let the guilty party stand before the law and before God. Well, this is nothing new. There was a similar case of a love triangle long time ago in the Bible involving King ‘David, Bathsheba and her husband. David “lusted” after Bathsheba although he knew that she was a married woman. In order to legitimize his relationship with her, David devised a sinister plot to murder Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband. Uriah was killed in the heat of a battle against Israel’s enemies. But the thing that David did displeased the Lord. His love for the woman discarded his love for the Lord. God sternly rebuked David of his sin through His prophet Nathan. Although David repented of his sin and regretted his actions, the price he paid of pain, agony and untold misery were not worth the pleasure of his lusting love misadventure with Bathsheba. His deep remorse of his sin is reflected in Psalms 51. He was saved alright because of the grace and mercy of God, but four of his children perished some of them in scandalous manner as consequences of his sinful lust. How can anyone determine to differentiate LOVE from LUST? When any love for a woman or man has a sign which says, “FORBIDDEN” or in Tagalog, “BAWAL”, and anyone still gets involve, then, that is LUST! How do we know that it is forbidden? It is forbidden when the object of your love whether man or a woman is MARRIED! This “DIVINE INJUNCTION” also applies to THINGS like money. For example, “The LOVE of MONEY is the root of all evil!” How can anyone avoid this?” The Bible says, “WALK in the SPIRIT that you will NOT fulfill the Lust of the flesh.” This is akin to “WALK by FAITH and not by SIGHT. This means that Christians are motivated by the “WORD of GOD. “ The Word of God is the “Spirit” of God. Jesus said, “The words that I speak to you, those are “spirit” and life. Christians are NOT motivated by what they SEE, feel, think or want. Now, you have been warned! Don’t be stupid! Be WISE and stay away from trouble, BIG TROUBLE
