The Labor Ministry, which is responsible for weeding out - TopicsExpress

The Labor Ministry, which is responsible for weeding out undocumented workers in the Kingdom, has taken a backseat while security forces across the country are busy carrying out raids and arresting thousands of violators. The ministry is working out an effective mechanism to pinpoint violators. It has been focusing on large business organizations in major cities. The ministry’s inspections are expected to be extensive with focus on “select targets” rather than random checks. According to sources, the ministry is analyzing data available with it to identify and classify violations, besides focusing on preventive measures. Verification of “profession” will be one of the major tasks that Labor Ministry officials will undertake in the coming months. It has been collecting relevant information, including GPS position of erring business organizations. The ministry has also collected wage details which will help establish the position of expatriate employees. This is expected to be carried out in the second phase of inspection in which the ministry will play an important role. The ministry recently recruited inspectors, and though their numbers may not be significant, they can be effective in zeroing in on violators with active field support from security forces. For the first time, the ministry will be deploying fully trained inspectors. They are being trained at King Fahd College for Security in Riyadh. The inspectors are being given training in honing up their investigative skills to detect violations during field inspections and to prepare investigation reports. The Inspectors will play a key role in future. Jeddah will have 45 inspection teams while Riyadh will have 55 and Eastern Province 65 teams.
