The Law In These Parts is a profound documentary on the justice system of Israeli-occupied territories. While its author, Ra’anan Alexandrowicz, reveals the dark side of this allegedly rule of law as being the mere law of the powerful, he takes a very convincing, anthropological perspective on documentary filmmaking: it is contructing a particular perception of reality--but its not arbitrary. I will probably move on to document another subject. The audience has finished watching the reality that has been presented, and can now go back to everyday reality. The subject of documentation waits, under arrest, for his judgement. Can a society impose a military occupation on another group of people for more than 40 years while still retaining its core democratic values? #power #law #reality
