The Law of the Day is the Marine Broadcasting Offenses Act. Passed on this date in 1967 by the British Parliament, the act outlawed the practice of "pirate radio", in which offshore antennas (placed on ships, sandbars, and other places found on the ocean) would broadcast radio in order to circumvent oppressive British radio licensing laws. One such Pirate Radio ship served as the basis for the Philip Seymour Hoffman film "Pirate Radio" youtube/watch?v=81WoHrF0A9A
