The Logansport Tigers lost their opening game of the 2014 season, 35-14, to the Mansfield Wolverines. The game also marked the head coaching debut of Logansport’s Kevin Magee. The win by Mansfield was their forth straight against their longtime DeSoto Parish rival. This week the Tigers open their home schedule against the Lakeview Gators at 7:00 in Tiger Stadium. Mansfield put the first points on the board with 4:37 left in the opening quarter. The 1 yard run closed a 5 play 65 yard drive that was set up by a Logansport fumble. The Wolverines extended their lead with a 20 yard touchdown pass with 4:21 left in the second quarter. Logansport got on the board with a 12 yard pass from Logan Spears to Tanner McDonald with 25 seconds left in the half. The touchdown capped a 10 play 55 yard drive. The extra point was kicked by NaKendrick Peterson cutting the Mansfield lead to 13-7. Logansport took their opening possession and used 2 plays to take the lead in the game. Braylon Wilson scored on a 41 yard run and Peterson added the extra point to give the Tigers a 14-13 lead. Two Possessions later Mansfield retook the lead on a 36 yard pass. The two point conversion pushed the Wolverine lead to 21-14. On the ensuing kickoff Logansport fumbled the return and Mansfield turned that turnover into a 13 yard touchdown pass. Another tow point conversion padded the lead at 29-14. Mansfield’s final score came on a 38 yard run by the quarterback. The Tigers block the extra point attempt for the final margin of 35-14. Offensively for the Tigers, Wilson led the team with 10 carries for 108 yards in his first varsity start at running back. Spears added 20 yards on 4 carries and Madrid Johnson had 7 yards on 4 carries. Spears completed 14 out of 27 passes for 140 yards. McDonald was the leading receiver with 6 catches for 84 yards. Kameron Chatman had 3 catches for 25 yards, Tremaine Fletcher had 2 catches for 7 yards, James Pitts 1 catch for 14 yards, Johnson 1 catch for 8 yards, and Wilson had 1 catch for 2 yards.
