The Lone Ranger was controversial in some Native American quarters. Johnny Depp is about 1/10000000 Indian and Tonto is a stereotyped, broken-English speaking sidekick according to the criticism. Well, I don’t think this was a hurtful movie, but it is not an especially good one either. Tonto is actually the lead character (would have to be since Johnny Depp plays him). The film makes a halting attempt to elevate Indians. And if this is partly a comedy, there are some good laughs in it. But this is a bubble gum Disney movie which isn’t really for kids because of the violence. I almost fell asleep in the middle. I give this movie a “B.”
