The Met office have update the weather warning for wind for Thursday. Its still yellow which means be aware. But they time frame has now shifted. Comes into force now at 3 am tomorrow and ends at 21:00 Thursday night. Issued at: 1207 on Wed 14 Jan 2015 Valid from: 0300 on Thu 15 Jan 2015 Valid to: 2100 on Thu 15 Jan 2015 Southwesterly winds will increase early on Thursday morning with gales or severe gales and gusts of 60-70 mph developing, perhaps locally reaching 80 mph along the north coast of Northern Ireland and western coasts of southern Scotland. Winds will turn northwesterly during the late afternoon and evening, with gusts exceeding 70 mph across the Western Isles, before slowly easing. The previous warning, covering much of the UK, has been split in two; this warning for northern Britain commences later than previously, while its northeastward extent across Scotland has been reduced. The public should be aware of the risk of localised disruption to transport and possibly power supplies. A deep area of low pressure will bring a swathe of very strong winds close to the coast of Northern Ireland during the early hours of Thursday morning, this then affecting southwestern parts of Scotland later in the morning. As the winds swing to the northwest later, it will be the Western Isles that pick up the strongest gusts. Details of the zones affected by the strongest gusts may yet change, so please keep in touch with the latest forecasts and warnings.
