The Mk3 version of the Super Modular Rail is a strong, lightweight, timeless design that will be around for a long, long time. All Super Modular Rails (SMR) from Geissele Automatics, LLC are based off the rail system designed by Geissele to replace the aging rail systems on Army cool guys HK416s. SMRs have gotten more and more refined with time, with the Mk3 variant being a balance of lightweight, modularity, and smooth, ergonomic surfaces. The Mk3 allows users to easily install rails parts or even 3rd party components with a backplate channel machined into the rail: simple drop the mounting plate that your rail piece of accessory screws to into the channel, let gravity drop it into the desire spot while you stop further motion with a small object... and ta daa, you can now directly attach picatinny rail pieces (included) or anything that uses a back plate. Without anything attached, the rail itself is light, smooth, and rigid. An exceedingly large barrel nut provides an usually large bearing surface, which combined with a tight fit with 0.0010 clearance, produces an extremely rigid rail system with repeatable zeros. This rail is expensive, because the quality Ive got this rail on my personal Hodge Defense rifle, and it would make an great rail system for a rifle with a medium length barrel (13.7 to 16)
