The Mr. Special Supermarket Dog is Rescued! Hershey, as she is now called, was rescued by Jiovana Blanco and her friends, on Friday, July 25, 2014. Since it was a local holiday, Hershey could not be taken to a veterinarian, but was safe and off the streets and fostered by a nice man. On Saturday, July 26th, Hershey was taken by Jiovana to Dr. Eloisa Pagans veterinary clinic in Cabo Rojo, P.R. and was diagnosed with mange and treated for other conditions. Hershey is now in foster care and will remain so until she is fully recovered. We hope to be able to send this doggie to find a forever home in the U.S. From living in front of a supermarket and being ignored by many who passed by her with carts full of food, to on the path of finding a forever home. This is what is it all about. Back story: Ines Aviles-Spadoni spotted Hershey while waiting for Nydia Martinez in front of a Mr. Special supermarket chain in Mayaguez, P.R. Ines was appalled at the condition of the black dog laying in front of the supermarket, people going in and out with carts full of food, completely ignoring the begging dog. Ines immediately began taking pictures while people looked at her strangely, almost annoyed, and posted them on the Hachiko page. Ines also went into the store and bought canned food and gave it to the dog. Within minutes, a wonderful person by the name of Jiovana Blanco posted that she and her friends had been giving food and water to the dog and had arranged for someone to foster. That all they needed was help with paying for veterinary expenses. Hachiko will help them pay for some of the veterinary expenses.
