The Socio-political situation in the country is fast changing and going in the direction of communal divide particularly after emergence of Narendra Modi on political scenario. 2. Due to changing political landscape and eagerness of some political parties to grab power in the country at any cost, certain elements began exploiting sentiments of public for political gains. 3. Aligarh and adjoining area is a biggest centre of meat production. Apart of domestic consumption, export of meat earns a good foreign exchange for the nation. 4. Since last few weeks, a particular lobby for gaining political mileage has not only defamed meat produced at Aligarh but also has succeeded in stopping its production which has resulted in the economic losses to a particular community engaged in the trade. 5. Sir, you are aware that there is difference between beef and buffalo meat and all sections of Indian citizenry respect the religious sentiments associated with beef. In Aligarh slaughter of buffalo takes place in a legal way but in the name of beef the trade of meat has been stopped. 6. When the media and particularly print media covers these events, it sould desist using world ‘beef’ (गोमांस) without confirmation as their use may escalate communal divide and sends wrong signals. They should clearly use buffalo meat. In this connection MCCI requests you to please issue proper guidelines to media including printing media for confirmation about the variety of meat before declare any meat as beef. Your intervention will save an ugly situation and will strengthen the journalistic ethics. Looking forward to your suitable steps in this regard. Thanks. Sincerely Yours, (Jasim Mohammad) Secretary The Muslim Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) 15-16 (1st Floor), Muzammil Manzil Complex, Dodhpur, Aligarh Telefax: 0571-2704121 Email: muslimchamber786@gmail
