The Mystery Of Digital Time-Space - Unity Gomen Flickers of light in the mysterious workings of the cyber-tech world have a “subjectivity” to it making it possibly true and possibly a delusionary digital display of the memory and hence, we know and do not know at the very same moment of neuro-convergences. For instaces, the “Reconciliation” Prime Minister Najib talked about after the general electios and taken up by a few who appear to have floundered had been discussed wirelessly from about a month before nominations before the general elections. It was followed by an in-depth proposal and consideration of the Unity Government that is now a subject of our discussions, a Unity Government that would be worked out finally by an extended conference based on mushawarah (consultation) and muafakat (consensus) by all lawmakers and Civil Society under the watchful eyes of the BERSIH Teams. The Unity Government Conference will deliberate and decide the final make-up of Malaysia constitutionally, institutionally, socially, economically and dealing with affirmative action, income and wealth distribution, the whole parade of civil liberties and civil society finally making Malaysia a bastion of Western Liberal Democracy in the East. It was at that time I was suddenly invaded again with radiowaves packages casing me to be put on the machine for days in Ampang General Hospital, the last time I was warded. Now Najib has pronounced the idea of Reconciliation but without the Unity Government and resulting in what is clearly a flop, forcing his think-tank back into space for the injury to be treated. How reconciliation can make sense without a roof-top formula that can overcome the differences and setting a new table of national objectives I cannot know. But to draw up a holistic national agenda for a thoroughbred westernised Unity Government to be born will engage Najib with the warlords in Umno and especially those who envisage a rule by an oligarchy of the fabulously corrpt rich. To maintain Malaysia without change is to sustain the macabre. The country now has two sets of criminal laws and two sets of judiciaries, the secular and the Islamic, a twain that will sooner sunder than provide for sustainable unity. Mahathir, in his days of glory when he ruined the national future with that incongrous dualism must have thought the people would not and could not rise against him. Now he knows better. If nothing is done and fast to get rid of that mis-shapen statecraft to reconstruct the aging dewaraja in the 21st century, this country will tear to pieces by 2022, Sabah and Sarawak openly encouraged to secede so the malady of having to live with Alice in an arabesque wonderland of the appetite for authoritarian blood-letting and maiming will perish in a cave-in within the nine petty-states that are termed the Malay States. Umno was left mainly with voter-support from the rural in the 13th general elections, and even that was marred by widespread allegations of electoral fraudulence. An analyst wrote down his surprise when he found even in the small newly-founded rural towns Umno and the BN were rejected, being a stern telling that the decades of transition from rural to urban/industrial society had pushed 65 percent of Malays to towns and cities when in 1969 sity five percent of the Malays were rural. In the 60s and 70s thousands of the rural drifters would run hysterical unable to live under the strict discipline of school hostels and the factories. Now, after the decades of trauma, they have settled in, much wiser than they had ever been before, no more living in “instant houses” built by the wealthy and rented out to them for Rm 60 per unit per month with one room. The progress since hasn’t been much but it has been progress. They have learned the ways of the towns and cities. They understand their leaders in Umno have hoodwinked them. More than 71 percent of them are paid salaries below the poverty line while in Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Twin-Towers were once the tallest building in the world. Bricks and brats. In some Felda schemes the women are driven by factory buses 40 to 50 kilomenters to the factories and the same distance back per day six days each week to earn that extra income so the family can afford a car. They have learned but must continue to learn much more to be able to compete with the Chinese, and now with the Indians too, themselves forming the least significant community in the share and capital markets 56 years after the Great Independence was achieved in 1957, a marvel of sustained dependence Umno preserves for the glory of kleptomania in the moral mortification of the Malay elite of the Mahathiric oligarchy. Malays who can leave Malaysia have been running out of the country. A lot of Malays do not wish to be Malays or Muslims. It’s been a colossal shift of values, a shift that come with enlightenment in a rising that’s reflective of the drag towards the French Revolution captured excellently by Victor Hugo. A lot of young Malay rural girls in the drift to the towns and brightly lit cities found themselves without friends. Without any occassional mercy they sleep with any man who can give them a roof for a night or two and food for the days that caused them to bear the unwanted children they dump into the rivers or in clumps of plaintain with the umbilical intact, Les Miserable! O Merciful Allah! Great God! How great has been the achievements of Independence? It is like how Muchtar Lubis had written in his popular work, Senja Di Kota Jakarta (Dusk Over Jakarta). It brings back to memory the maiden of the BERSIH Zen Master, Salina, for which his name became etched in our memories indelibly. Now he is Co-Chair of BERSIH. Samad Said. There’s the changes and the marks of the changes. Now for the truth that matters. This writting space is hacked, again. There is no need to continue with the charade of writing here to message the Powers, while I feel of myself as someone that’s addressing the little power-villains of Golding’s Lord of The Flies. The point that’s required to be made is simple and it has been made, i.e. millions of Malays and others have gone through a traumatic socio-cultural shift in a relatively huge rural-urban drift that began in the aftermath of the 1969 racial riot. In a differing breath thousands of Malay youths were given tertiary education at home and abroad, some of these retaining the old Malay value system with solidarity being the top most value where the value for knowledge should now be. The Malays are not only fragmented in the conflicts between the old and new but something more ominous happened. In Malay society, women have excelled, the men left behind in the social heirarchy so as to make gigolos a happy ending, a stark ridicule of fundamental Islam that is being loaded onto the society like it is indeed the path to paradise. The Malay language is so Islam-dependent it has not the means to say “God Bless You.” It has to use the Arabic “Yarham KaLah”. It’s that bad. Wow! What a mastery of culture-disrupt! Never before has the Malays been as confused and as inane. And so, in this two decades of awakening after the Malays and Malaysians were equally startled by the abuse of Anwar Ibrahim who was sacked from party and gomen, beaten in police custody by the then IGP, thrown naked for his self-esteem to waste in an empty room of Bukit Aman, sentenced to 15 years in jail but released in six by a long shot of history....after all that and a pile of distressing malfunctions of gomen and the Police, what do we do? A few people suggest a Unity Gomen to be finalised by Mushawarah and Muafakat with Civil Society presiding and keeping a close watch to go where we want. What should Anwar and Bersih do after this? Hold Tea-Parties. Until there is a consensus either for Unity Gomen or for the People’s Tribunal to sit, hold Tea Parties. Ah Kow, Yam Seng! The nation and society is riddled with conflicts. Ecpt for members of the kleptocracy, the Malays were never worse. Wake up!
