The NDC manifesto on VOCATIONAL and TECHNICAL EDUCATION stated that” the council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) will be empowered to provide a more skills competency-based technical and vocational education. The Vocational and Technical Schools will be restructured and rebranded to provide a well-defined education stream, which will terminate at the tertiary level”. In the fulfillment of this promise, • Government and Africa Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with COTVET is funding a number of infrastructural facilities for some technical institutes across the country. • The institutes would benefit from facilities worth $4 million. • Two institutes from the Eastern Region would benefit from the initiative, one each from the Volta, Ashanti, Greater Accra, Brong Ahafo, Central, Northern, Upper East and Upper West will benefit from the initiative. • The projects to be undertaken include the building of workshops, a semi-detached staff bungalow and recreational grounds for soccer, volley ball and netball. • Others are first aid clinic, a 12-unit classroom block, ICT block and a store room.
