The NSW Government is in damage control this morning, holding an ugent joint partyroom meeting in an attempt to quell disquiet in its own ranks over coal seam gas. The new plan would reportedly open up the state to new coal seam gas licenses — but it looks like the government told the Daily Telegraph about that before it told National Party MPs.... and theyre not very happy. Meanwhile, farmers and communities are telling the government that throwing money at them wont make this problem disappear. Chairman of the Mullaley Gas Accord, David Quince, told media the quality of land and water was more important to farmers in north-western NSW than compensation money offered up by gas companies.
