The NSW Police Facebook page has reached the milestone of 300,000 likes. The page, which was launched in 2010, allows NSW Police to share crime reports, public warnings and major event information with the community; and provides an opportunity for the community to engage with police. Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn says that while traditional media outlets have long been an important tool used by police to help with investigations, the interaction available through the Facebook page is also proving to be highly beneficial. “We have embraced social media very strongly, as it allows us to get our messages out to the community instantaneously. “Social media lets us speak directly to the public, and in turn, have them contact us in relation to ongoing issues. “We also use the site to inform people about the great work police are doing state-wide, and to inform local communities about what is happening in their area,” Deputy Commissioner Burn said. The NSW Police Force would like to thank all our Facebook fans for helping us reach this milestone and would encourage loyal followers to spread the word to family and friends. Although today’s achievement is a great success for the NSW Police Force, the community of New South Wales should also be recognised. Without their support, this achievement would not have been possible,” Deputy Commissioner Burn said. The NSW Police Facebook page can be found at https://facebook/nswpoliceforce
