The National Dog Warden Association is holding a two day conference on the 25th and 26th June 2013 at Stoneleigh Park Warwickshire that addresses amongst other animal issues dangerous dogs. It will address how they can be dealt with and the public protected from the consequences of irresponsible ownership. The conference entitled ‘Dangerous Dogs Where Are We Now And Where Are We Going’ will feature eminent speakers such as Trevor Cooper who will give an update on dog related legislation, Pete Tallack who will look at non-prohibited dogs and experts in their field from Police forces and Local Authorities who deal with prohibited breeds and the results of irresponsible dog ownership. Keeping safe around dogs that may be encountered in the work place will also be looked at. The issue of where dog control is after 35 years and if the situation has improved will also be debated. Bull Breed Awareness will be discussing whether local communities can help bull breeds. Delegates will be told about the Kennel Club Accredited Instructor scheme that recognises the role of the Dog Warden as a Specialist Qualification and the fact that it offers a City & Guilds qualification to those who gain accreditation. As many Animal Welfare Officers will deal with other species, there will be a Raptor and Reptile Rescue presentation. Illegal importation of puppies into the country will also be discussed and what can be done to stop this practice. Dog licensing in Western Australia will also be looked at in a presentation given by the UK Representative of the WA Rangers Association. The seminar will as the title informs, look at where we are now and where we are going in relation to dangerous dogs. Unfortunately in the current economic climate, resources are leading to cut backs amongst enforcers be it the Police or Local Authorities but there is a worrying increase in incidents.
