The Netherlands launched a global alliance for greater food security through climate-smart agriculture. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister for Agriculture Sharon Dijksma joined forces to launch the alliance during the UN Climate Summit in New York last week. The alliance is backed by 75 countries and organisations such as the World Bank and supported by world leaders such as President Obama and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. By 2050 we will need to feed a world population of 9 billion people. Continuation of the current production levels will lead to a food shortage of 70%.
