The November club newsletter Mainsheet will be mailed out next week. However, class captain Dave Batchelors report failed to make the print deadline, so here it is. Amazing how much effort members make to go sailing everywhere but home! Well done all. Sorry the tables look a bit amateurish - FB doesnt seem to like them. 2014 Dinghy sailing - David Batchelor Cant believe the dinghy-racing season is all finished for the year. It hardly really got going, losing many races to poor weather and so many sailors away completing at National, World and European championships. Russell & June Collister along with Phil Hardisty and Ciara Kaneen competed in Lake Garda, Italy sailing their RS200s, really enjoying the last day with 30-knot winds. Greg and James Kelly and Anna Harding, along with Emily and myself took part in the RS200 Nationals at Hayling Island. Pete Barlow along with Tony Randle and Harry Davies took part in the National 18 class championship at Abersoch. The RS Feva Worlds were sailed at Carnac, Brittany at the end of July with four Manx boats taking part. The sailors were Greg, James and Alistair Kelly along with Ben Batchelor, Erin Murphy, Ffinlo Wright and Robert Harding. The Feva Nationals were held at Weymouth. Mike Pridham was busy competing away in his Laser Radial going as far as Oman and Duinnbergen, Belgium, finishing off the year at the Worlds in Hyeres, France. Yogi Quayle and Mike Wilson took part in the Kestrel Nationals. The Manx Youth Sailing Squad had a busy year, training over the winter months in the UK and at 7th Wave during the summer. They competed in the Tera Pro and Sport fleets at the Europeans in Holland, the Nationals at Derwent, Start of Seasons at Northampton and the Inland Nationals. They have also started racing the 2-man RS Fevas. A big thank-you to Jen Kneale and the other coaches for all their hard work with the squad. Its very pleasing to see such good results coming from it. We would like to try and improve racing down at the club, so new ideas will be very welcome. We could do fun team-racing events perhaps and also maybe the odd start Friday night race from the breakwater due to the problems of trying to get race officers. It will be easier to get race officers trained up without having to use the Yellow Peril as well. I thank PJ for all his hard work running Friday night races this season. The results below it shows that young club members club are sailing very well at national events in large fleets and us slightly older sailors need to pull our socks up to compete. I fear Im fast becoming a tail end Charlie, or should I say have become one.
