The Oatmeal tried to get political and used smoke and mirror talking points to try and make a point. But its just wrong. Net neutrality isnt about a free and open internet. It sure sounds nice but if it were would there be numerous regulations behind a plan, or would it simply be a bill that says a bit is a bit and you cant charge or throttle a bit? Think about it. Why should such a simple thing as free and open be so complicated to regulate. If it were truly free and open ISPs would be open up the marketplace and remove the localized monopolies on services. The argument that Netflix was a reason why we need regulation is absurd. Perhaps instead the fact that Comcast is the largest ISP and Netflix serves 34% of the Internet data. If you dont think that costs money you need to learn more about how the Internet works.
