The Pharisees from the time of Jesus believed in something called - TopicsExpress

The Pharisees from the time of Jesus believed in something called the Oral Law or more commonly known as the Mishnah/Talmud. They tried their best to follow this new law and even claimed it was better than the written law and given by God. ------------- Mark 7: Then some Pharisees and Scribes from Jerusalem came to Yeshua and asked him, “Why is it that your disciples break the Tradition of the Elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat!” He answered, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother, and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say, ‘If anyone says to his father or mother, “I have promised to give to God what I might have used to help you,” then he is rid of his duty to honor his father or mother.’ Thus by your tradition you make null and void the word of God! You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from me. Their worship of me is useless, because they teach man-made rules as if they were doctrines.’” ------------- Basically the Pharisees were teaching in their new Oral Law/Mishnah that you could break some of the commandments that God gave us and were teaching that we can follow their traditions which says we only have to keep some of the commandments. Does that sound familiar? We dont need to keep that commandment, We only need to keep this one. They were picking and choosing which ones to follow and keeping people out of Gods Kingdom through their traditions (Matthew 23:13). Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single convert, and when he becomes a convert, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves. (Matthew 23:15) The Pharisees were the largest sect of Jews in the first century and the only way to know what the bible said was to go to the synagogue every sabbath and listen to what was being read. They didnt have printers to print bibles during that time for the masses. ------------- Matthew 23: Then Yeshua addressed the crowds and his disciples: “The Torah-teachers and the Pharisees,” he said, “sit in the seat of Moses. So whatever they tell you, take care to do it. But don’t do what they do, because they talk but don’t act! ------------- If you read the bible very carefully, especially the encounters with the Pharisees then you will see that Jesus supported keeping the Laws given by God but he hated seeing people become hypocrites by getting rid of the law and replacing it with new things which arent mentioned in the bible. He wasnt against the law that his father created, he was against a new law that was trying to get rid of Gods law. Beware, we have many modern pharisees today which replace Gods law with new traditions and doctrines of men not mentioned in the bible. The earliest believers didnt have bibles that they walked around with. Thats why Jesus told the crowds and disciples to obey and do everything that the Pharisees taught from the seat of Moses which was at the synagogue where people learnt everything and found out how to keep the commandments. In Acts 15, we see the council of Jerusalem ordered new gentile believers that they should just keep 4 commandments from the law until they learn the rest of them by coming to the synagogues every sabbath. Jesus said in Matthew 5: Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Ps. The Sabbath didnt get changed to the first day of the week. The reason that the apostles and believers gathered together to break bread on the first day (sunday) is because they were in the synagogue either learning or teaching on the sabbath (saturday). They didnt have bibles ... so they had to learn from the only source they had which is going to the synagogue every sabbath. That is the only logical reason why they met on the first day. In Acts 1:12 we read that the disciples only walked a sabbaths distance to Jerusalem (approximately half a mile), Why would Luke tell us unless they were trying not to break the sabbath? #Logic
